What should we order? I'm willing to try new things so what's delicious to try? Others in my party have more delicate stomachs and some are allergic to shellfish so what do you recommend? Thanks.

  1. For an appetizer, try tulip dumplings (has shrimp) or chicken satay.

For soup, usually there are only 1 or 2 for the day.  Lemongrass or coconut are common flavors - both are delicious, it just depends on what you like.

For an entree, decide if you would like a meat dish that is served with rice, or a noodle dish.  I love drunken noodles - which are wide flat noodles sauteed w/ veggies & a meat (you can pick beef, chicken, shrimp, or tofu).  It is not spicy, although you can get hot sauce on the side if you like.  Pad thai is another classic noodle dish - milder flavors, so this might be a good option for those w/ "delicate stomachs" in your group.

I would also recommend that you try a curry dish - red, green, or Mussaman curry.  You can get chicken or beef if you want to stay away from seafood.  You can also ask them to adjust the spiciness of the dish to suit your tastes.

  2. If I'm not wrong, a successful Thai restaurant in your area will definately adjust their cookings to suit the local palate. Thai cuisine normally would combine the sour , spicy and sweetness taste for a wonderful tasting. Anyway things that usually appears in a Thai restaurant fare would include

    1) Appetizer

    - sugar cane prawns, version of mango salad - very good (spicy and sourness and sweetness all at one go, Thai fish cake, screwpine leaves chicken etc etc

    2) Soup - a few but the most famous definately would be the Tom Yum Kong which is spicy and sour soup (adjust the spiciness for the least tolerant one)

    3) Main courses - varietal of curries either red or green) -  can use any types of meat, BBQ skewers of chicken, lime pork, Thai basil chicken, fried fish in Thai chili etc etc

    4) Rice and noodles - most famous would be the pineapple rice and pad thai

    5) dun forget the desserts. Yummy - coconut pudding, lemongrass tea, sticky rice with mango, durian custard

Anyway Thai cuisine is considered among the world's most delicious, with a unique blend of particular tastes: hot (spicy), sour (piquant), sweet, and always highlighted with citrus (lemongrass and lime).  Enjoy

  3. I'd say to start with the basics:

-Pad Thai - fried sweet/sour noodle dish, with bean sprouts, tofu, peanuts, green onion - you can also have prawns added to this.

-green/red/yellow curry - usually has veggies in it- potatoes, basil, carrots.  You can select what kind of meat - beef, chicken, or pork.

-Pineapple fried rice - cashews, pineapple, and chicken.

-not all Thai places have this, but there's a stir fried eggplant dish that is excellent - served with ground pork.

For your guests with delicate stomachs, I'd ask the waiter to keep everything mild as far as how spicy you want your food.

    Chok Dee (good luck)
