I'm going to a conjugation of sorts tomorrow. What should I wear?

A friend of mine, who just so happens to be g*y, is unofficially getting married to his partner tomorrow and I have been invited to their event. I was told to dress "extremely casual", whatever that means. I just don't want to go there and be standing out because of what I'm wearing. I don't know if "extremely casual" could mean flip flops, jeans, and a polo or khakis, and a button-up shirt. Any advice rendered, just as long as it is not rude or anything, is accepted. And no, I am not g*y myself.

I would just wear a nice pair of jeans and a plain (say black) polo or button-up. And whatever shoes are confortable. Flip flops are fine.

What do you normally wear when around your friend? As long as you aren't a slob i would say that should work.
