  1. first thing that surprises you and you won't miss: metal detectors.  securities/ polices, no uniforms (for most schools)... more freedom...other than that, schools are the same everywhere.

  2. It depends on the area you are moving to......

Contrary to what the guy said  a couple of answers before me, elementary and middles school children here in

Los Angeles are required to wear uniforms (Blue pants, skirts or jumpers, white shirts) mainly because gangs have colors they wear to show affiliation. The other reason is simply because it alleviates the problem "name brand competition".

There are good and bad schools here in LA just like nywhere else..

I hope you enjoy your new school, you must be really excited....Good Luck to you!!!

  3. remember some people are sincere about getting to know you and others just want to mess with your head.  Trust no one, until you have know them for at least 30 days.

  4. You will experience a culture shock, expect anything and everything, but just stay on your toes and try not to make any enemies.  Above all be mindful of peer pressure, you are an easy target because you are trying to make friends and haven't been under as much peer pressure as someone who went to public school.  I have a friend who was home schooled and picked up smoking (a really nasty habit that took him 4 months to quit) when he started college.  Just be smart and work hard and everything should take care of itself.

  5. it is very materialistic, I actually home school!
