  1. Draw well !

  2. show alot of emthusiasm and effort. you could go to art galleries and exhibitions around your area. My sister is in the same position as you, and goes to alot of exhibitions, has her own art website and sells her work. shes always doing pictures, even when she took a year off. It works quite well because her work is unique and different to usual artist drawings etc.

but your obviously good enough and appealing anyway, or you wouldnt have gotten into a competative college in the first place! good luck with the course!

  3. art as in painting i assume? developing ones own style is important but  being aware of what others are trying to portray can help.

being imaginative and attentive  will go a long way.

for example if asked to supply a picture for consideration such as my son was. he was having trouble coming up with ideas. the tutor simply showed him a perfect example by having a light bulb splitting open and more smaller baby light bulbs spilling out. he included this example in has work and was highly recommended for it. so you see it takes sometimes a sideways look at things/ try thinking outside the box .. good luck.

  4. create your own style. in art and dress sense. be yourself.

  5. think outside of the box with your work and be confident :o)

  6. Try to arrange some exhibitions of your work, even if it is just local "in the church hall" sort of stuff.

Also, see if you can get the local newspaper to give you a write up.

You may be able to sell some of your work!

  7. Well if you have already been accepted and/or enrolled, then why would you need to change yourself?  You're already in... the best way to make yourself the most appealing is to just be yourself!

  8. Helen up there has the first right idea: be yourself.

Now, when you get there, check out all of the faculty.  Find the one whose style (both in the work and as a person) is something you'd want to emulate.  Take every opportunity to work closely with this teacher; make him/her your advisor, mentor, role model.

Work diligently!  Too many art students think that they have to wait for the creativity fairy to hit them with his artsy magic wand; your attitude should be that inspiration comes from working.   Try to schedule specific hours when you'll do your assignments and when you'll work on your own pieces.

Be friendly to all and have a good time--people find others appealing who are happy and positive.
