I'm 15 doing charity work at an orphanage. The kids are about 7 to 12 years old. I used to love to do this stuff when i was younger, but now I'm just running out of ideas.

What can I play with them, what can I do also? I'm good at English stuff, I like sports, I can teach them languages such as Spanish because I am fluent. Also I do martial arts.

Anything in mind? I also have to help this little boy who is deaf and it's very hard for me to know what to play with him.

  1. Have him teach you sign language,Get book and learn magic tricks together, walk though the park is the fishing near by,build a bird house

  2. Play "silent go fish." It's just like the card game "go fish," except instead of asking for a card, you show the one from your hand that you want from your opponent. If he has it, he hands it over. If not, he shakes his head & points to the fishing stack. You might demonstrate this with some hearing children and let the deaf child pick it up by watching.

"Old Maid" does not require a lot of talking, either, and can be fun in a large circle of kids. When we play Old Maid, we use a regular deck of 52 cards. We remove, face down, one card from the deck, setting it aside, so that no one knows, until the end of the game, which card IS the old maid. You deal out the remaining 51 until they're gone. Match up pairs and remove them from your hand. The starter pulls a card from the hand of the player on his left. (If it matches something in his hand, he lays them down) That player pulls from the guy on *his* left, and so on around the circle as many times as it takes until one player is left with one card.

If the other children are hearing & understand English, I recommend reading aloud to them "How to Eat Fried Worms." Boys and girls, yes even age 12, love to have stories read to them. Especially funny, engaging ones.

If you're active, how about jump rope, or hopscotch or teach them a dance routine that includes some cool martial arts moves (so it will appeal to the boys as well) ?

Make it fun. The kids will take their cues from you. If you're uninterested, they will be, too.

    Best to you.
