teach English there after I graduate. I am trying to learn the basics of the language on own (my school does not offer Japanese). I am interested in starting to look into the process right now. Does anyone know how I would go about securing a job or getting contacts right now so I am prepared in the future? I am trying to locate a class or tutor right now so I can start learning the language so I can at least hold basic conversation. So if you have taught in Japan I would love to hear from you!

  1. Oh, thank god you want to find a class or tutor and you're not just asking how to learn on your own.

I haven't taught for JET yet (although I hope to; as well as for other foreign countries) but I know a bit about it. To be blunt, there's actually no requirement for you to know or have studied Japanese it just says it'd be nice if you attempted to during and before going to Japan so if you can't find anyone it's alright. You won't be immediately disqualified.

I suggest looking at the main site for JET: http://www.jetprogramme.org/e/aspiring/i...

If, while learning Japanese, you have any questions please feel free to send me a message. I'm on my fifth year of Japanese study and am majoring in it at college (I'm currently 18).

  2. That is quite similar to what i want to do in the future. I would like to go study abroad in my 3rd year of post secondary school and then maybe teach after i graduate. =]

sorry.. that didnt help you but it would be helpful to go there before you become a teacher and make friends and build contacts and relationships with the right people. =]
