Question:

I'm going to college this fall- looking for inexpensive posters or prints to put on my wall?

To clarify my question, I'm heading off as a soon-to-be college freshman in August and really want something to spice up my boring bedroom wall. I can't afford to spend lots of money on art (up to $20, no more than $30).

What I'm looking for, mostly, is scenic, landscape, tropical, or in general nice photography. I'm even happy just finding a website with a good selection of prints to choose from to decide what I like. And I'm looking for a larger size, maybe over 24 inches square or so.

Do you know of any websites, online stores, etc., that would have a good selection at a price good for someone on a budget? I really appreciate the help!

  1. Visit your local movie rental outlet.  Ask them

if you can have (or buy cheap) movie posters.

    They always have them.

  2. take your camera and head out  to the city your going to be living in and take pix of interesting buildings signs whatever, take  to kinkos enlarge them and presto instant art---plus it's a good way to get out and do some sightseeing

  3. http://5dollarposters.com/ that is the cheapest i have found

  4. You want cheap? Check out your own photo collection and cover part of a wall with some favorites. Makes a great icebreaker.

Look around a thrift store like Value Village. Just today I saw a 36' x 30' print of senic Lake Superior  at sunrise, $3-$10.

A calendar is interesting looking and functional. Find a theme you like (Alaska magazine has a great calendar of landscapes). $3-$6, any grocery store.

Personally, I like maps. They are great for planning any traveling you want to do and promote an academic atmosphere that helps for studying. $5-$15, any bookstore.

Finally, a word of caution. It might be better to wait until you move in before buying too much, especially if you have a roommate. Also beware of clutter (my problem). The dorm is already small, lots of stuff on the wall won't help.

  5. Try yard sales if online is too expensive.  Look for old calendars with nice pictures....you could probably put several together or space them out on the walls to form a design.
