  1. what part of costa rica... cuz if you are in san jose area, i suggest el pueblo. is a plaza with many different bars with its own music. live, rock, reggae, salsa, merenge, or just to relax and enjoy

  2. All the bars are cheap in CR compared to the US bars. In a regular bar here you will pay like $1.50 a beer and in a expensive bar you will pay $3 a beer.

  3. I lived in the country for six months, but I really didn't spend much time in San Jose.  Go to Barnes and Noble or Borders and get the Frommers guide to Costa Rica and it gives you an incredibly detailed synopsis of every region in the country, and it gives you restaurants/bars/clubs/etc for every area too.  It's a great book!

Have fun visiting.  I'm jealous!  :-)

  4. There are bars in every block in Costa Rica, some are family taverns, some are nice fancy bars, some country bars, some hooker bars, some sports bars and some neighborhood bars, hotel bars, american bars and costarican bars, but you won´t have trouble finding any.

You didn´t mention what area you will be at .

  5. If you look in Lonely Planet they have a lot of those sorts of things. www.lonelyplante.com or just go buy the book.

  6. The Greatest Bar in Costa Rica is the "Blue Marliln" bar at the Hotel Del Rey downtown San Jose.

It has a decent size casino in it and their IMPERIAL AND IMPERIAL LIGHT are only a buck a bottle!

And the women that hang out there are some of the most beautiful women in the world!

They pass their time there by coming up to you and asking "Hey Baby! You want some company tonight?"

And it will be the best $50.00 you ever spent in your life!

  7. I would say El Pueblo. It is an area where there are a bunch of bars and clubs with lots or students and young professionals.

About Blue Marlin, it is not the sleazy place you think. It is just like a regular sports bar in the US and everyone will speak English and you will meet lots of Americans.
