I'm going to a school for 7&8 graders. I don't know what to wear/buy to wear. What do I need to know about school? I know nothing. I'm going to be a seventh grader. I need lots of advice.

  1. i did that!! i was fourteen when i went to school for the first time, i was so so nervous. basically (im guessing u dont have to wear a uniform?) i would just wear something casual like jeans or something, although as im english i dont really know whats "hot" in the us for schoolwear at the moment!!

okay things i found hard about getting used to school was firstly not knowing the campus. schools almost always let new students come and get to know the school before you begin there, and especially in your type of situation its even more important cuz (well for me anyway) i found it quite difficult adjusting to such a large area with so many people milling around and on top of that having to be at lessons on time!! But most likely you will be given a 'buddy' (or several) who will hopefully have a bit about your situation explained to them so they can point things out they think will help you. buddies tend to help you learn your way around the school, show you how things work and most importantly be a friendly face while your still meeting people.

Try to be confident and if you get lost or anything then ask someone and tell them you're new. If you can remember your tutor rooms name/number (i think you call it a homeroom over there???) and the name of your personal tutor (if you have one) then i think that would probably help as i couldnt remember mine for ages and people kept asking me!!

I'm sure you will be fine, i hope you really enjoy school cuz they do have a lot to offer and i feel quite lucky to have experienced both homeschooling and mainstream education!

Just be prepared for your days to move a lot faster than you are probably used to and make sure you get lots of rest when u go home at night especially at first, if your tired everything will seem harder.

And if you have any problems then ask for help!! if people can see your willing and want to do well there is very little they wont do to help you in my experience.

    Good luck!

  2. Are there any kids in your area?  See what they are wearing.

One thing to remember, 7th grade is brutal.  Kids at that age love to pick on each other for all kinds of reasons.  Don't let them get you down.  It may take a little getting used to if you have been used to a home environment.  Keep your head high and remind yourself it's part of adolescence.  By 8th grade it gets better.

Try and get involved in any extra activities you feel you're interested in, sports, drama, school paper, etc.  You'll find much more interesting kids that way.

  3. dont look at nobody elses man

the girls you meet are really not ya friends until you feel they are your friends, and beware of the 3 way phone conservations that will take place like this

ok your name is "you" your friend u just met name is mandy

    ok.....

mandy- hi sally what your doing

    you- nothing

mandy- you know i just hate those ugly glasses that wendy wears.

you- yeah they really are ugly, she looks like a beast with them on.

mandy - yup we should step on them and break them

    you- ok,ha,ha,ha

next day in school wendy is about to kick your azz because mandy just set you up

    you yet the picture

  4. Well style depends on where you live. Don't overdo your outfits. Dress nice, but not like church nice. Keep nice shoes, keep your hair done. After the first day you will get a feel for how people dress. Don't try to fit in by copying people though. Stay away from t-shirts and raggedy clothes. You want to turn heads so people will notice you for more than just the new girl.

  5. Be yourself. Don't gossip and don't get involved in being the messenger. You will do great!! Don't worry.

As for clothing check with the school to see if they have a dress code. Buy a couple of outfits and then see how the other girls dress and go shopping on the 2nd or 3rd day for your school wardrobe.

Don't forget lunch money or bring your lunch.

  6. I've never been homeschooled before, so I don't know the environment that you're used to, but actual school isn't too bad. As far as clothes are concerned, just wear what you usually wear. You don't need to follow fashion trends and what-not, and if you are really unsure, you can't go wrong with the casual shirt, jeans (or denium skirt) and flip flops.

For the first day I would just kinda follow the crowd. If you're shy, don't worry about forcing conversation. Since you're new, people are bound to notice and ask you questions. In my middle school (6-8 grades) the administration assigned "top students" to assist a new student around. These kids would help new students get aclimated and introduce them with their friends and so on. Personally, I would just focus on classes the first day and let the social aspect come to you.

Most importantly, just be yourself. If you try to be fake, it'll catch up with you. I wish you the best of luck!

  7. you need to talk to people but dont act like a know it all... hopefully you play sports or something. that will help. you can get friends with the same interests that way. School is cool... if you are. just be confident in yourself and everyone will believe what you project out.
