  1. excellent advice from all the posters before me.

I never wanted to be a pro, just wanted to learn the "science" ...but one thing I noticed in boxing is....you can have all the talent in the world....but if you don't have the cardio and also know how to defend yourself...it's a wrap.

one thing I forced myself to learn is how to slip, block, keep chin tucked, weave, roll shoulders and counter...etc. and run, run, run for cardio.

if you have an above average defense and good cardio, you are miles ahead of the "prospect" boxer.

  2. Hello, Im assuming you are going to be taking it to a competitive level?

If so then buy the following equipment:

    Punching/ Heavy Bag

    Double End Bag

    Floor to Celing Ball

    Speed Ball

Gloves  (8, 10 OZ depending on how much you weigh)

    Focus Pads

    Boxing boots

    Boxing Trunks

    Hand Wraps

    Head Gear

    Mouth Guard

Interms of food, i would recommend to consume food items like Pasta, Rice, Stews, Lots of Veges. Generally eat healty and stay away from fatty foods and soft drinks.

Use Multivitamins and always re-hydrate your body after each training session.... You can do this by Drinking Gatorade or Powerade.

If you have any more questions or would like me to discuss with you further, then let me know.

    Hope this helps kiddo.

  3. Learn to box, defend, relax, breathe correctly while you are boxing.

  4. Go to the nearest boxing gym and listen what the trainers tell you.

  5. you don't need to take extra supplements if you eat good food. if you still feel you need to take them speak to a doctor about what vitamins or other supplements would be good for you. every person is different and while one person may take one supplement it may not be useful for another. As for what you should be eating...Lean meats, vegetables, and fresh fruit. For more information on nutrition and fitness you can go to crossfit.com

the equipment you will need to start boxing is... wraps, tape, small bag gloves, and large bag gloves, and sneakers (I recommend using Samba made by Adidas)

once you start sparing you will need much more... headgear, mouth guard, sparing gloves (these have an elastic band that goes over the Velcro), and groin protection

most importantly make sure you join a good boxing gym. training yourself will only lead to bad habits and getting put on the canvas.
