I just moved last year and in 8th grade only made 3 really good friends... but only 2 of them are going to the same school as me. one of those is a super genius and the other may be in only 1 of my classes. so I'm gonna start high school w/ hardly any support from my friends!! i really don't know what to do... and on top of that I'm REALLY bad at making friends, I'm super shy, and don't know how to really hold a conversation w/ someone i don't know... please help me!

  1. just smile at every1 , ur a bit like me but there will be shy people like u also but after they become ur friends open up to them ull be fine, just have confidence in yourself and dont do silly things

  2. Every one of us has times where we need to step out of our comfort zone in order to live life the way we need to. This is your time. Look people in the eye and greet them instead of looking down or away from them. Introduce yourself to those who sit near you. Just say,"Hi. My name is ...." If they don't respond, at least they know who you are and you haven't done anything stupid. Someone will probably respond with their name. You can then ask them if they have any other of your classes or where they live or if you can eat lunch with them since you're new. Notice people's faces. Is there someone with a smile? Is there someone who looks as lost as you? Learn to read those faces that would accept you and include you. You don't have to say much, but if you refuse to talk or ask questions or smile or look at people, they will think you're a snob and then things will get worse. NOW is the time to change all that. One class at a time, one day at a time.

  3. You won't be the only new kid. Join clubs and get involved in school activities: drama club, band, student government, etc. That's the best way to meet people. Just be friendly.

  4. i'm just like you. in your head tell your self that its just like 8th grade, smile at people. and confidence is the key.

it helps for the first day jitters if you bring something special from home and keep it in your pocket. so when you feel too overwhelmed then you have your own little piece of zen. (ok honestly i have no idea if that makes any sense)

  5. well, just TRY! high school is a time when you cannot be shy and quiet. cuz you will have to do presentations and probably partner work. you gotta get out that shy phase. its probably easy for me because i just start talkin to anybody! but for realz doh, just start little conversations like, "i like your shoes"
