I'm going to visit Egypt. Should I learn how to speak Egyptian Arabic?

Is it necessary for me to learn Arabic, or should I be able to get buy on English?

  1. if you are coming just for a visit , you dont need to.

    every one knows English to some extent .

    if you are coming to work or stay for a long period , then OK ,learn some Arabic from a book.

It really depends on where you plan to go.  As long you stay in the major cities or around popular tourist sites, you will have no trouble with English.  English seems to be the second language of most  Egyptians.  You may have some trouble off the beaten path in small towns, but even there I'm sure you can find someone who speaks English.

    Have fun.  It is a beautiful and fascinating country to visit.

You will be fine with just English most speak English and speak it well you may find the odd person who doesn't speak it well but will understand what you mean if not you will easily find someone who will be more than happy to help you out and speak to the person for you.  Arabic is hard to learn as there are some sounds that we just don't have and it is very hard to make the sound and without someone native explaining the sounds you will not know what sound it is from a book.  

    here are some useful easy words you may want.  

    Shokron (shock-ron) meaning thank you

    La'a (la when saying lamb and a not aye) meaning No

    Naam (like narm) meaning Yes

    Emshe (ermshe) meaning like go away

    Minfadlak (to a man) minfadlik (to a girl) meaning please


  5. I lived in Egypt for 7 Years and can speak Arabic enough to use a taxi or buy a soda Its not needed i mean if you take a taxi you can just say it or show them it on a piece a paper and they would know.

  10. Many people in Egypt understand English especially if you are visiting one of the touristic places. English is the second language in Egypt but I recommend you t know some essential Arabic words.
