My mum was African American, my dad is white. She died when I was 2, and my white father has raised me alone, and I'm an only child. Throughout my life, I have idnetified myself with the white community more than the black, ie, I have more white friends than black, and see to get along better generally with white people. However, I do not call myself white, I call myself just what I am, half each. However, many people I know, mainly blacks, say that I'm dening my black heritage, and think I'm superior to them. I dobn't see the logic, and think it's such hypocrisy, when half-celebrities like Halle Berry and Barack Obama are seen as black. Berry doesn't identify as more black, but Obama does, and no one critices him for denying his white heritage, so why am I criticed for denying my black heritage (wich I am not doing)? For example, people have said, "You're denyin your black mother Jason", or stuff like that.

  1. Don't pay attention to the haters. Just be yourself. Race shouldn't matter in today's world, but to some it does. Rise above other people's ignorance.

  2. Barack has never denied his white heritage......he loved his mother way too much to do that

the man looks black......he is black......he may be half white but if he never told the world he was half, even you would think him black if you saw him walking down the street

    Halle Berry same story

I do not think that you are denying your black side, I think that you are being ridiculous saying that you are white.....because white America will never see you that way, unless you look white

    It is, what it is

  3. You are biracial ... Barack Obama and Halle Berry are wrong and you have no justification and no pressure to follow their behavior ... when I was younger I had an identity crisis but right now I understand whom I am ... you are mixed and sooner or later you will see that ... since you do not deny your father do not deny your mother as well ... you did not come from two white parents ... you came out from an interracial union and that's reality ... the truth ... don't identify with whom you grew up with or what you did but with who you are ... your blood

  4. you are what you are. be what you want to be. but just so you know, to white ppl you are just plain out Black. they dont care if your half white

  5. Do you have:

    straight hair

    white skin

    european face

if not, then you're a sellout jaja

  6. JJ16.... you just set your self up for alot of racist white people to say stuff about black people. Do you realize your questions basically says, "Black people are being mean to me and saying i'm am a traitor, help me white people!" i know thats not what you meant but thats how its coming to come across! Please don't generlized black people like that. You mean the black people you know. I am half white and half black and i get along with all sides. i act like my self. i like rock and hip hop. pop and r&b. I have a white girlfriend and a black best friend. I'm happy for who i am.

  7. Why the h**l are you talking like your from the UK..No REAL African American holds your views..I think your a fake..Halle Berry and Obama ethincally identify as African American..Thats the CULTURE they hold.

  8. Just be your self....as long as you know your family history and back ground that all that matters. You don't have to prove anything to anyone. Just to yourself.

My daughter is African American and American Indian. Her birth father is not in the picture and I'm married now to a white man...and she can identify to all 3 races. She knows who she is ...and what race she is ( 2 different races)  and the race of her father now. to me the bottom line is al longs as you ( or anyone ) knows who they are, where the came from...as well as family that has passed that is all that matters. Just be proud of yourself and move at what ever pace you feel comfortable with.

  9. Just be who you are. As long as you don't try to cover up the fact that your mother is black, you're OK. Don't get stressed over which race you identify with, don't let race play into it at all. Be friends with who you want, do what you like, and don't worry about whether it is a "black" thing or a "white" thing to do. I'm black, but I had more white friends growing up, tended to always speak properly, preferred rock to R&B and I was told by some small-minded people that I was "denying my heritage." Some people are just bent on criticizing you no matter what.

  10. The same reason this girl in my class will give me c**p for liking the guy I do, yet when somebody else will say who they like, she'll say "Well you can't help who you like."  People can be hypocrites.  You're not trying to cover up the fact that your mother was black, you're just identifying with who you grew up with.

  11. I think you should understand why biracial people, like Halle Berry and Barack Obama say they are black.  In the United States, the government for many years, had the "one drop rule" that if a person had a drop of black blood in them, they were black.  This was done to keep whites as "pure" as possible.  It was not until the 2000 census that a person even had the option to check "biracial".  Halle once said in an interview that her mother who is white, told her that people will view her as black, so she is black.  She also suffered racist experiences while in high school, so she identifies as black.

Your life experiences and culture are probably British white, but try to get to know your mother's relatives, to feel proud of BOTH black and white parts of yourself!!

  12. JESUS CHRIST!!!!!!!!!, why are you people so INTO the color of your skin that is the LEAST IMPORTANT OF ANYTHING... god d**n it.
