  1. i have had probably 130+ IVs in both arms in my life time, (emt school, paramedic school, army schools, and then giving blood)

IVs do not really hurt,  i usually watch the technique and tell them what i think,  (ya, i really do that)

as for going into surgery, they could give you a bit of versed (if i'm spelling it right, i don't remember) and it would take the edge off. you would still be able to reason, talk and act intelligently but you would not care that much.

as for the surgery,   it depends on what they are doing.

and as for waking up, that also depends on a number of things.

talk to the anesthesiologist and ask him to make the wake up more smooth, they can do that with reversal agents, but at the same time not lose the pain killing affect of anything they hit you with

you may get toridol (spelling subject to correction) and that is a liquid aspirin which is pretty nice.  we used to hit all patients with it in the OR as a standard to keep them from tensing up.

don't go looking for drugs to feel good, but drugs to take the edge off

    you will do fine

  2. It should be a spinal injection or below the waist anaesthesia.  Only the needle or IV pricks a bit, less than a bee sting for sure, about 100 times less!  And sometimes you don't feel it, it is so smooth and small, but certain people THINK they feel it.

Then, you don't feel a thing during surgery, absolutely nothing at all.  they will scrape, and remove cartilage from your knee, it is simple and not dangerous, so routine and minimally invasive.  Like having your teeth cleaned.  They use a mini camera, many people watch!

If they are putting you to sleep, then it is because you are worried and might panic.  In that case, you will be asleep 10 seconds after they put the IV in, and you will be unable to count fro 10 backwards to 1, because you'll already be asleep, with no idea, totally at rest.

  3. You are going through exactly what i went through 12 weeks ago..The needle just dont look at it. After 5 second it won't hurt. A little pinch. It actually feels really good when the fluid goes in. When you go to sleep they will say they are going to put a little stuff in the IV to help you calm down. Within 10 seconds you will be out. After the surgery you will wake up with maybe an air blanket on. It's really cold in their. You will be very hungry and not even feel a thing your on so much drugs. Just stay on your medication and do what they say you will be fine. Iceing helps a lot. They are going to give you something for that too. Your knee will be in a splint and you will have to use crutches.

    Edit: Is it a repair?

Well if its a repair you will be on crutches and if it's not you may be able to walk right out of their. If it's a repair..DO NOT try to walk until you Physical therapist or doctor says you can
