  1. My husband recently had two colonoscopys done.  I understand your being scared.  First of all, your doctor will tell you how to prepare for this test.  You have to drink so much of a liquid that you get from the drug store.  There are several types to choose from.  None of them are very tasty.  My husband was so sick while he had to drink the ten glasses.  It's supposed to clean you out for the test, but my husband said drinking the solution was the worst part of it all.   Some places

do put you out for the procedure, but not all.  My mother had it done recently and was not put out for the procedure.   It is a very painful test to have if your not put out, so just tell your doctor you want to be put out.  They do give you a needle, but it is very small, and minutes after that you will be out.  You will be alseep for less than an hour, my husband was out for about 45 minutes at the most.  You wake up feeling confused a little bit if it's your first time.  But it's nothing to worry about.  During the procedure, a scope is inserted into your colon, and they are looking for polups.  They have to be removed, because they can cause cancer.  There are three types of polups, and they each grow on a stem or a stock.  They are not large and they take a long time to grow.  It's important they be removed, and if you do have any, like I said they will be removed, and sent out for testing.

You will see the doctor again for the results.  I't important to have this test done many times in your life.  It's the type of cancer that is very common, and preventable.  So don't let your fear of needles or anything else control you.  I would suggest you do some research and also ask your doctor about anything else that your not certain about.

Once the test is done, your just going to want to come home and sleep for the rest of the day, and that is very normal.  Good luck, and don't worry.

  2. I have had 4  of them over the years .. there is nothing to it.. they will probably put a small needle in the top of one of your hands to administer the anesthesia.. but it doesn't hurt at all.. They will come in the room start the anesthesia and you will go to sleep talking to them.. after awhile  you will awake and ask when they are going to do the procedure and they will tell you that it has already been done.. nothing to it.. don't sweat it.. its a breeze... hope you the best.. but don't worry .. just take it in stride and it will be over ... there is no pain or anything.. the worst thing i have had from them is once in a while a little soreness in my stomach area for a day or two...

  3. It appears people have confused colonoscopy, with colposcopy. They are two completely different things. I assume you are asking about colposcopy.

A colposcopy is not painful, and no needles are involved. It is a little uncomfortable, as she does go in deep, but it's not painful at all. So don't worry.

  4. make sure you are asking about the right procedure and tell your doc that you have a needle phobia, must medical procedures consist of needles, I past out in my early 20's but I later over came  that problem and now I have surgery anxiety and there is nothing that can help that. they usually sedate me as I come in the O R door, they know I have  had a bad experience so they normally take good care of me so call your doctor and ask and alert them if they are not aware of this. they have to be careful with me because if they give me certain things I wake up fighting and someone if not myself could get hurt. I so do not handle medications very well and I have to stick my finger 2 times sometimes more a day because I'm diabetic now so try your best to inform your doctors and they should make you as comfortable as possible, if not make sure you change doctors. Do not try to handle this other than speaking with your doc

  5. I was an endoscopy tech for a long time, and I can honestly tell you it's a very minor procedure. You'll be sedated by an anesthesiologist, and you'll fall asleep. The doctor uses a colonoscope to look through your colon, and they can take pictures of anything abnormal. They can also take a small tissue sample for a biopsy if needed. No, it doesn't hurt, you'll be asleep for the whole thing. After the test, they stop the anesthesia, and you wake up. It's a very restful sleep from what I've seen from thousands of procedures, and I've never seen anyone in pain afterwards!
