Or are placemats better? Where can you get good quality tablecloths anyhow, just white ones?

  1. its unusual to use a tablecloth but I think it really adds a sense of occasion.

  2. Go for Polythene cloths. It is easy to clean & wash also looks always fresh.

  3. Tablecloths are a pain and they get messy, stick to some nice placemats or if you do want a tablecloth you can get the disposable ones from a supermrket!

  4. How old are you .... if its a young and trendy crowd then not, its just not really the done thing however, if you were born more than 30 years ago then its the thing to do!  Go for white and minimalistic thought, white candles, silver cutlery, will create a good mood.  Re obtaining table clothes try somewhere like John Lews chain.

    Good luck!

  5. We hardly ever eat at the table and we never have guests. But we eat at the table for bdays, valentines day and christmas. When we do we have a table cloth and placemats

  6. I just use placemats and a nice centerpiece. I have a brand new dining room table that I like to show off and not cover up.

It depends on what you like. I would say either one is fine.

Walmart or Target sells tablecloths, Pier 1 Imports,  any fine department store. Not sure what you have around you

    Good Luck and Good Eats!

  7. I use them all the time they  just look nice ... even for a casual dinner ... and  place mats too.

Bed, Bath & Beyond has nice ones and Linens and things

and even Walmart has nice ones if you are on a budget.

  8. I use a table cloth.  I like the way it looks.  I have a nice silk one from a Russian store up this way though.  I have another linen one I bought at Target that I also like.  I think it really makes the table look so pretty.    Of course I only do this when I have company :-)

  9. When I'm being "posh", I also use one of them lace things on top, if not being posh then it's occasional tables in front of the telly. As for where to get table cloths try a big supermarket or woolworths, wilkos etc.

  10. i use a tablecloth

  11. I use a tablecloth for special occasions but for everyday eating we just use the table and wipe if any spills

  12. I use tablecloths every day, but I seem to be in a minority.

My table is an antique and can't afford to let it get damaged, so it has a waterproof and heatproof protector under the tablecloth.

The good thing is that the family are very careful not to spill or drop anything, so the tablecloth lasts for a couple of days before I have to wash it,  I've trained them well, lol.

  13. I have a tablecloth. I use placemats too. I got mine from Next, but it's not plain white. Can't help you with that, sorry. Have fun!

  14. Tablecloths and placements are fine but I prefer a table runner.

It gives a modern more expensive look to the room.

I guess it all depends on  the overall theme of the room like if you have a country-like theme with florals etc then a lace tablecloth would fit just fine, if you have a retro colorful motif then placements in different colors would look good, but if you have a modern, simple, or oriental theme then a table runner would look best.

This is what table runners looks like:

  15. u should use a tablecloth your home will look a lot neater

  16. I don't use one personally except at Christmas but I do like to see one when I'm a guest at someone's home. It shows they've gone to some trouble, and it helps protect (or hide!) your table.

  17. If you are in the UK, John Lewis stock both tablecloths and place mats

  18. yup...

adams mums does, but adams mums strange:S]

    she is a bit wierd...

actually not wierd just a bit crazy...;like adam, he's crazy it runs in the family....

    it does

    it does

  19. Well I don't use anything I don't even eat on a table anymore. I think on special occasions a table cloth would look nicer (we have an antique wooden table, so i guess it depends on the kind of table you have) I don't  like placemats for some reason I think they look tacky. Try looking for a table cloth at pier 1 imports. They have a lot of stuff there.

  20. I use tablecloths for more formal dinners or holidays.  If this is a casual meal..place mats are fine

  21. I use tablecloths and/or placemats.

Try: Next.  John Lewis.  The Pier.  Ikea.  Habitat.

  22. Tablecloths are optional. If you want to use one, use one. They won't think you're odd at all.

  23. use a bed sheet. i do, and if you have a round table cut the sheet round, but a bit bigger than the table so it hangs over

  24. It depends on the context of the meal and your personality.  Is it a fun, relaxed "lets get to know each other" meal?  Or a formal event?  Table cloths tend to be more formal while place mats are less.  For outside dinning, a table cloth can help make pours surfaces more sanitary.  Look online for "tablescapes" or "place settings" and mimic what you like.

as for purchasing cloths, check Wal-Mart or a fabric store.

  25. I use a tablecloth.  Actually, I got my most recent one @ bed bath & beyond, it was on sale.
