  1. I got married in June, but my dream wedding was in October, like yours (why it didn't happen like that is a lengthy tale).

My dream wedding revolved around dramatic jewel tones.  I had flowers (why don't you want flowers?), but it isn't necessary to achieve the result.

If you dress your bridesmaids in colors that remind you of deep, rich gems (sapphire, emerald, topaz, ruby, you see my point, but keep it to deep, rich colors), but different colors, they can carry candles that match the dresses, and you can create pillar candle arrangements made of all the colors including white for yourself.  Your groom should wear a black tux with tails, white tie, white cummerbund and vest.  The groomsmen should wear essentially the same suit with a tie and cummerbund to match the maid they're walking with, but a black vest, and no bottoniere, but  a breast pocket handerchief that matches that couple's color theme.

If you want any other ideas or have questions, let me know.

  2. Here are a few ideas:

    Good luck!

  3. I think that sounds fabulous! However, I would use some greenery.

Perhaps some plain ivy? That would be an elegant touch with some plain white or ivory pillar candles. You can add some mirrors under the candles. Or you could get colored pillar candles.

I found a picture of something that I had in mind-

    here's another-

You could also use some ribbon of color if you want some more color added. Like for your bouquet (if you are having one) some ivy with decorative sprigs with maybe some jewels on them? I'm not sure how to describe those.

here's a cake idea (i know there are flowers on it, but you could always do away with them) -

I hope something here helps you!

  4. Interesting idea.....

You can use something like this with battery operated 'candles' for the bridesmaids to carry

as well as for your centerpieces - with reg or battery candles (comes in a larger size if you want also)

For the maids you could have ribbons hanging from the top for a touch of color, and for the table consider putting it on a small platform with a ring of ivy (not flowers!) around the bottom.

Another thought for centerpieces would include pumpkins and gourds. A cousin of mine saw it on Martha Stewart and did it for her shower and it was surprisingly elegant. Take a bunch of pumpkins and gourds and cover the 'fruit' part with paper and tape it tightly. Then use a metallic spray paint in the color of your choice (she used silver) to spray the stems only. Then set them at various heights with the aid of small boxes, cake plates, etc. with votive lights in between. A craft store will carry (in floral supplies) a heavier wire covered in a felt type covering or tape. Take and wind it around various sized items to form 'curly-q's' to stick in to the stem and have it stick out like part of the stem, but more stable. She added dragonflies to the stems which were highlighted with glitter that danced in the candlelight.

Rather than flowers have bouquets made from leaves and ivy; large vases of twigs, leaves and berries.

    Good Luck and have fun!

  5. Here is a blog with a pic of bridesmaids carrying candles, I love the holders they have them in, it keeps the candles from blowing out and the wax from dripping on their hands/dresses/the floor.  http://offbeatbride.com/2007/10/jesses-n...

I once went to a wedding where there were hundreds of votive candles all over the stage - so beautiful.  Most dollar stores have a good selection of cheap, cheap candles.

Make sure you check with the place you're getting married at, some venues have restrictions on using candles.

  6. You can use some pillar candles and some shiny rocks.  Another site suggests candles with rock salt....nice effect too.  Check out the sites.

You can also find some branches and surround the candles.  Lastly...if you're in the Thanksgivingy kind of mood you can use leaves!
