next week i've decided i'm going to have a giant picnic at a local park with all my friends kind of as a celebration to the weather changing and stuff. probably at least 30 people or something. but i don't want to make sandwiches and stuff for every one so i was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what kinds of foods i should bring and drinks and stuff and like how much of everything cause i don't want to run out and i'm terrible at estimating food for parties. probably at most 45 people so any ideas?

  1. buy chicken pieces(65) or hamburger( 50) and hot dogs(36),  have a few of the guys do the grilling and buy a cake for (50), tell everyone else to bring stuff;

    plates, forks,napkins, salads, buns,and drinks. that way everyone contributes and has fun, don't forget the music! or, the kites, horseshoes, balls,and Frisbees.

  2. I'd head on over to  KFC but that is going to cost some bucks!

  3. I have a "Tasting Spoons" cookbook with a chart for amounts for large numbers:   for 50 people, you'll need:

    13 lbs. hot dogs; 18 lbs. hamburgers (if you're bbq-ing)

    2-1/4 gallons potato salad

    1-1/4 gallons jello salad

    1-1/4 gallons baked beans

    75 lbs. of watermelon

    1 12x20" sheet CAKE (or 3 10" layer cakes)

    Lemonade:  20-30 lemons & 3 gallons water

    Just some rough figures, so you can go from there.....   A bean salad is always good, since it can sit out and not go bad.  Just open cans of cut green beans, kidney beans and garbanzo beans and mix with some Italian salad dressing (use the total quantity as the potato salad)
