I'm having a hard time running during the day, rather than at night. Why is this?

At night, I can run for miles. But when the sun is beating down, my legs don't want to do the work. Also - why is it becoming difficult for me to run without music being pumped into my ears?

  1. um it's hot during the day. it's nice weather and more relaxing at night. and yeah i cant run without music either. when you have music, you have other things to think about other than...the pain of running, really. and without music it is realllyyy boring, let's face it.

  2. I have been running for 30 years and always preferred to run at night.  Your body is looser, or less stiff, than it is in the morning, due to your walking around all day.  And it is cooler.  And the concerns of the day are gone.   But depending on where you run, I am very concerned about your safety.   Everyone needs to worry about crime, and especially a girl running alone a night.  And then there's the problem of traffic, which you also have during the day.  And a music player in your ears takes away a critical way for you to protect yourself from each, by hindering your ability to hear a car or a person sneaking up on you.

  3. I have been running for about 2 years no and have developed the same exact issues as you.  I dont know for sure, but I would say that it probably has to do with your conditioning.  If you run for a period of time at night only, your body begins to get use to running solely at night, so when you run in the day, your body just physically isn't prepared that time of the day. The same way your body would adjust to eating at certain times.  Also, the amount of heat during the day makes it harder to run under those unfamiliar conditions.  As for the music, I would suggest changing your running habits as often as possible.  Change the places that you run to so that your mind doesnt become bored with the same tired routine over and over again.  When listening to music, your mind becomes occupied and focused more on the music rather than the unpleasant feeling of working hard, so when the music isnt there your mind is much for open and focusing more on the pain, heat, and tiredness and you become mentally defeated.  The key is to change things up as frequently as possible.
