  1. It is your town/city's responsibility to keep the mosquito population in check.  Most towns spray sewage grates, etc.  Contact your city and explain the hazard, especially since you have children.

  2. Listerine is a good mosquito repellant, so are dryer sheets - like Bounce.  Have your children put them in their pockets or in the waist of their shorts if they don't have pockets.

If you have pets, make sure they are on a heartworm preventative, too.

  3. buy and use deep woods off spray

  4. I'm not sure what products are out now, as yrs. ago they found some to not be safe.  You could ask a pharmicist....they should be able to tell you, or call your local Health Dept.  You could use Calamine or Caladryl Lotion on the bites for the itching.  And I think Witch Hazel would also be good......my mother used it on the bottom of my feet when I had an extremely bad case of measles, and they were itching like crazy.  Good luck!  P.S.  I'm sorry!  I tho't I was still in the Health dept.!  Why don't you go to a nursery and ask if they have a spray that's safe for children that you could use on a lawn and plants, that would help deter the mosquitos?

  5. Contact your state health Dept. and have your neighbors contact them also. The more complaints they receive, the higher priority they assign to your problem. They will spray (fog) a chemical that will take care of the mosquitoes. The chemical is not an insecticide, it blocks reproduction of the mosquitoes, whose cycle only lasts a few days. Call and COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN.
