Every year I put on a huge themed party for my birthday and this year I want to do and spend as little as possible. So I've decided to have a potluck dinner at a friend's house.

What should I bring to the table??

  1. Pick up some 31/40 cooked & peeled shrimp at a store. Rinse them at your friend's house. Add some store bought cocktail sauce and a sliced up lemon. 31/40 refers  to the number of shrimp per pound. I buy the two pound bags of frozen shrimp  and speed thaw them. Add a few sliced lemons and garnish the platter. See if the butcher will give you a little seafood seasoning to sprinkle on top. The frozen bags are cheaper than over the counter in the butcher/fish area.

  2. well you being the host should supply the main dish and drinks. so maybe a big sub sandwich or sloppy joes, taco/nacho bar, chicken wings- anything with meat for your main dish.

  3. The host usually supplies the main dish and drinks.  If it's a BBQ, just bring an assortment of gourmet sausages, hamburgers and whole portobello mushrooms (for vegetarians) to BBQ and serve on buns, with condiments.......

  4. I would bring my own cake.  That way, it looks and tastes EXACTLY how I wanted it too! :)  and maybe what ever i wanted bbqed, like chicken, or steak...but not too much, just like a package or so.  and any special drink I wanted too, I'd bring.  Like If I wanted margarritas, i'd bring 1 bottle of tequilla, 1 bottle of mix, and 1 bag of ice.

  5. Big pan of smoked rice, real baked beans or 7 layer salad,

    Smoked rice

2 cups uncooked Riceland Gold Perfected Rice

1 cups uncooked Riceland Extra Long Grain rice

    1 Tbsp. salt

Cook first 5 ingredients in large sealed pot( makes 6 cups.) Cook the rice as package directs.

    1/2 cup diced bell peppers

1 1/2 cups chopped red onions

1/3 cup chopped green onion tops

    2 sticks margarine

2 cans cream of chicken soup(undiluted

2 can cream of mushroom soup(undiluted)

    2 cans chicken broth

    1/4 cup Liquid Smoke

Saute onions, bell peppers and celery in margarine until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients. Combine mixture with rice. Mix thoroughly.  In large pan (disposable alumin pan (16x11x2-inch recommended). Cover tightly with heavy aluminum foil. Cook at 350F for 35 minutes.
