I'm having a really rough time finding the right color for my living room. I think I just found a chip that's going to work though. It’s called Bonjour Beige by Glidden although it has no beige characteristics. I thought this color would be the easiest to find but it turns out that it is the hardest. I'm going for a light tan or a really light brown that you see in the high end houses. All the swatches are so deceptive, the paint chip and the actual paint look totally different. I've tried two tan colors so far and both of them have a yellow tint when I put them on the wall. The first color that looked tan is called Champaign Gold by BEHR and it tuned out to be a light yellow then I tried another tan color and it looks better than the first but it has a really funky ogre look and it has yellow tint too. I also noticed that some tan colors come from the olive green family. Can someone please help me find the right color before I loose my sanity?

  1. I used a color called "Dapper Tan" by Glidden:

I quite like it a lot. It's very light & neutral, I think.

Another great site to find a color that you like is Roomvues.com. You can see what the colors actually look like when painted on the wall:

Here are some beige/tan rooms that you might consider:

  2. Just wondering but what is the base wall color that you are painting over?  Did you use a primer or a tinted primer?  This could be altering the color slightly depending on what the base color is.  Winter Garden is a decent tan color by Behr.  Cozy Cottage or Oat Straw might be good options as well.

  3. As long as you have a sample of the color you want, take it to Home Depot.  They can computer-match the color.

Are you painting a wall that has a color already painted on it?  If so, that affects the color you get when you add another color.  Paint colors are only true if they're painted on white walls.

    I hope this helps.
