I'm having a sweet sixteen in July and the theme is Alice in Wonderland. I need ideas...?

I need ideas about decorations, activities...stuff like that. It is at a formal hall, and i am having a dj, emcee, and dancers. I am planning on inviting about 125 people. I'm just unsure about where to purchase decorations....should I make them myself?

I would hire a professional to decorate. Then that way you know everything is perfect. You could put your invites on playing cards. Hope this helps!

I am also planning an Alice in Wonderland theme party for myself.

As for decorations you can really go crazy. For the celling you could hang bright colored chinese paper lanerns and hang playing cards on fishing line so they look like they are floating around. You can get yard flamingos and huge flowers to use as decorations. Also have clocks arounds. Have signs that say this way, wrong, way, that way. Have mushrooms. If you are having balloons make them bright colored maybe put lights in them. As for the talble make sure it is set up as a tea party with tea cups and tea pots. You can use the tea pots and put red and white roses in them. You could also have a little mouse sticking his head out of one. You could use an upside down top hat as a vase for more flowers or put food inside. Of corse have cookies that say eat me and notes on the drink that say drink me. Have guest dress up as characters or have them wear mad hats and ties or white bunny ears. You could also buy these and give them to guest as they arrive.

That is seriously the coolest idea that Ive heard for a sweet 16! Black lights, glow in the dark chesire (sp?) cats, have people sing the unbirthday song....ummm i cant think of anything else...

I would hurry and go to the clearance aisles at places like wal*mart etc and buy left over white chocolate bunnies from easter as the "white rabbit" You could wrap them in celophane bags with a favor tag mentioning something about the white rabbit and use them as party favors.

When guests come in there could be a big bowl of cookies that say "eat me" in icing...

And around the bowl you could have little glass bottles that look like potions with tags tied around them that say "drink me" with something like kool-aid or red-bull in them. This would just be a fun little treat for your guests to enjoy as they arrive.

You could do a tea party theme... like with the mad hatter, and have crazy hats for everyone. You could buy cheap hats so everyone could look like the mad hatter... maybe something like this

For games, how about a game of crocquet? Is there an outdoor space that could be used?  If not you could possibly do it on a carpeted area just by adding little weight/bases to the arches so they will stand on their own.  It would certainly be in place at your party as the queen had a big croquet game in the story.

You could also do something with time/clocks as the rabbit was always checking his pocket watch and saying he was late.... maybe you could tie this into your invitations.

OR you could do large oversized invitations that you make yourself and hand-deliver.... here is the exerpt about large invitations for the queens croquet match.

"The Fish-Footman began by producing from under his arm a great letter, nearly as large as himself, and this he handed over to the other, saying, in a solemn tone, 'For the Duchess. An invitation from the Queen to play croquet.' "

If you could get a huge lawn chess set that would go along well with the story as well. Most huge sets are really expensive ($300-500) but here is one that is still pretty big and less than $50.

You could also decorate with large playing cards, or give away decks of cards as favors.

maybe for the dress code you could make everyone wear a costume or dress like one of the characters from alice and wonder land.  then u could have the people vote on the best costumes.  if most of them have like a boy and girlfriend then you could vote on the best pair.

Very cool idea!

Once, I decorated a sales booth in an Alice-in-Wonderland theme and I made mushroom-stools by buying red, round cushions and sewing a couple white spots on top, then glueing them to simple plastic stools I got at IKEA.

That is super super cool. I had a simliar party when I turned 16. I filled my parents neighbors pool with rabbits and paid a family friend to be the 'Mad Hatter' He ended up getting drunk and falling in the pool and eating a few rabbits so we didn't get our full deposit back.
