I'm having problems playing PS1 games?

Okay, so I just bought a brand new FFVIII for the playstation, and was all hyped, but when I tried it on my PS2 it said "disc read error" - it does this for all my PS1 games and even a CD lens cleaner doesn't help...

So I tried it on my PS1 and hooray, it worked...and then it started randomnly resetting about 5 minutes into the game. :/ It tends to do that.

Any help? I really want to play this without having to splurge on a new PS1...the game ate up all my savings already.

Oh, and the games aren't scratched at all...it's the consoles, probably?

It might be the fact that your using the wrong game on the wrong console!

But Shouldn't be a problem because its the same console of a higher model.

Either the game is pirated or you've inserted the special chip for pirated games because Sony has created special lenses that read only original games and the chip has screwed up your entire console. that is what they usually do. and then you can only play pirated games. If the game is straight from the shelf and is the latest game that means there is a programing error n the disc and you should get it checked. hope you benefit : - )

im pretty sure its your consoles.

i have played all my ps1 games on my ps2 without any problem.

im not totally sure in this category but maybe your ps2 and game are from different countries? i only came across this type of problem when i got a hold of a game that was released in a different country.

you probably do have a problem with your ps2 that is unexplainable, heres my advice, dont buy ps1 games!

maybe the game that you bought is fake!!! if the cd is original then no problem playing that on your playstation 1 or 2, and if its original, maybe the region of your game is not applicable with the region of you console.
