I have a deep well and my pump is s******g up. After I prime it, it seems to pump the water into the tank fine, but then the pump cuts off and the water is forced back down the well. And, I have to start all over again. Can anyone give me some ideas?

  1. Hi. You have a deep well jet pump. The problem is with the foot valve at the very end of the pipe in the well. There is no way to fix it unless you pull the pipe and put a new one on. They are available at most any hardware store. I like the plastic ones but the brass are just as good. Hope this helps.

  2. You have a check valve somewhere in the line that is not working properly. It shuts off the suction line the instant water starts to flow back toward the well.

Follow the suction line from the pump suction line to the well, if you don't see the in-line valve then it is at the bottom of the pipe down in the well - This is called a Foot valve and you have to pull the pipe up out of the well to replace it. If you have a plastic line in the well make sure to have some help pulling it out, do not kink it but lay it out on the ground in a gradual curve. They don't cost too much - take it with you to get the right size foot valve.
