I took my car to be serviced today and of all the things I told them that were abnormal they said that they couldn't validate not one issue. When I started my car this morning I put it in R backed up and it made a noise like it was shifting hard I put it back in D there still was a little bit of a noise but soon stopped. My AC does seem to make a noise and the car vibrates significantly when I'm stopped at a red while AC is running. I know that I'm not getting the stated MPG. Also I would often hear a cricket noise when I accelerated it's not doing this as often nowadays but still it does make that noise daily. Have you ever had a issue like this with a mechanic where you tell him what you feel and hear and he's looking at you like it's all in your head. Is there something else I should be doing or saying differently? Does anyone have any idea what any of the issues could be? Please this is not all me even my daughter notices these things.

  1. Shops cannot/will not verify your fuel milage concerns unless it is a obvious fuel leak they can see, there are simply too many driver variables.

Crickets or other chirping noises are usually due to a dry/contaminated belt, usually heard most in the a.m., not a warranty issue and the shop would need the car overnite to confirm. Harsh shift/trans engagement on 1st start is not unusual, the car is cold after all. The only thing here that has my attention is your "vibration". It may be normal or it could be a number of other things such as dirty throttle or a/c compressor messing up.

If the car has over 30,000 miles then its time for a tune-up, fuel injection service and cleaning of the throttle. These usually fix most idle/vibration concerns.
