  1. Download this free program REVO Uninstaller and see if it will remove most of Nortons and Symantec.  Usually there are about 375 fragments left when you uninstall Nortons.  They are glued to your registry, files, folders and subsystem.

    http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_unin...

Now here is in depth instructions on how to remove Nortons, because not even their removal tool works.  The program is pure junk and is designed not to be removed from your system.

    1) If you are able to remove via add/remove, then you must go to  your tray and open start, search and type in Norton, and let your PC search for all related files, delete them from the bottom up.  If any say write protected or being used by another file, then reboot and go back and try again.  Usually will delete this time.  You must also type in the name Symantac,  (not sure of the spelling), but parent company of Nortons.  They are also embedded in your system.

Now you must go to start run, type in: c://program files, double click on browse, open program files and look for both names, and delete.  If they don´t delete reboot and try again.

You have to go to your add & remove.  The problem you are going to find is that 1) The software may not remove at all.  2), only portions of the software will remove.  3) Even if you go to Nortons webpage and use their uninstaller tool, you still are going to have over 375 fragments glued to your registry, files, folders and sub system.  And this is going to cause you serious conflict when you try to install a better antivirus.

If all else fails ctc. me and I will direct you to free software that will delete any write protected file or file that says being used by another software.

You can go to your tray, start, accessories, system tool, and open system restore. Hope that you have a restore point before your friend messed with your PC.  If you do, use that restore point to fix your PC.

As for your other problem, when you start your reboot, keep clicking on F8 key on your keyboard.  Then you should see a new screen open on your monitor.  You will see SAFE MODE, or LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION, ETC, ETC.  Go in safe mode using your cursor on your keyboard and enter.  The screen will look strange, ignore and see if you can find a restore point.
