Question:

I'm having some problems with my getting my compound bow sighted in.

I do understand about following the arrow, but my arrow is still shooting low and I can't drop my sight any more. The Bow is a Browning Mirage, the sight is a Optix G5 XR, with a G5 in-line peep, and i'm using a whisker biscuit. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to bring it back to the shop.

  1. Move the peep sight up a bit, it'll move the arrow nock down and hence a higher impact point.

  2. First thing I would do is check to see if my rest is square or just a touch lower than my knocking point. If your rest is too low... you will shoot low.(your knocking point should be just a bit higher than your rest, tuning the bow will help adjust this to its final spot) Get a bow square and check it out. Your string could have stretched and moved your knocking point. Have you had your bow in a hot area.... left in the car or outside in the case? One thing if you havent already done it would be to put timeing marks on your cams. Just take a sharp object and scratch the paint on the cam on the top or bottom of your limb where it connects to the axel. You can always take a quick look at this mark and see if your string has stretced at all. Simple little things can make the life of a bowhunter a lot better. Hope this helps.

  3. Can't really figure out why this is happening, but one thing you may have to do is change your anchor point- if you are shooting fingers , go to a release- this will change your sight setting a good bit, resulting in a much higher sight setting due to the different anchoring point you will be using with the release. To make a minor adjustment that will help you shoot higher, you can raise the peep sight- this will make the arrow shoot higher, if you can do so with out messing up your sight picture. Wish I could help you more, but- hold on.  Every sight has a bracket that attaches to the riser- if you turn the bracket over, this will change it, perhaps for the adjustment you need- This is probably the fix you need . Good luck!

  4. There are several things that could be the problem but since you've dropped your sights as low as they will go then you may be dropping your arm. Are consistent left and right? If you are shooting good at the beginning of practicing then get lower and lower then you are just getting tired. How many arrows are you using? Couldn't any of them be warped? Are your arrows to heavy? What size are you shooting? If they are too heavy then that can make you shot low also. Also, what poundage are you shooting? Turning it up a little can make it faster and more accurate. Don't go too far up though. Can be rough on your shoulder and make you tire too easy. You may want to take it to a shop and can help you get it set up and help you figure out the problem. Good Luck

  5. Get you a mathews bow!

  6. Check to see if your rest is square check to make sure your knock hasn't slipped adjust your peep sight drop your sight pin if you can and not the whole sight you might also have the wrong whisker biscut for your bow there are so many things.
