I'm having trouble hooking additional speakers up to my Dynex TV?

I have a 32" Dynex Tv and i'm not too happy with the sound quality. I want to hook up my Panasonic Cd Stereo System (SA-AK66) which includes 5 speakers to my Dynex Tv. First I tried hooking up audio cables from the back of my stereo system labeled auxiliary then connected them to the TV on the side where the L and R plug ins are. This did not work. Next I tried connecting the wired from my stereo system auxiliary to the back of the TV labeled under AV in. This did not work either. I do not know what i'm doing wrong if somebody knows please help!
