I'm having turtle trouble, what do i do?

so i've had my cosmo for about a month now, and i just got baby stella a few days ago. i tried putting them together but cosmo kept trying to bite stella's tail off, and even was snapping at her head. now i only want the best for my turtle, so i know i can't keep them together.

but what do i do? i plan on having these turtles for a long time, and when they get big what am i going to do? i can't house them separately forever! there's no way i can afford 2 tanks with all the equipment as well as fit 2 large tanks. i'm in college now, and i'm sure after i graduate i'll get a tiny apartment (this is when the turtles will start to get big) and how am i going to fit 2 large tanks in a tiny apartment?

i did research online and all sites said that the turtles would get along, so i wasn't hesitant. i would just buy a large tank that they would share, and eventually build them a pond.

but what am to do? i know i have to give stella away...but i just can't do it!! even though it's only been a few days i'm already attached. but even if i did give it away who would i give it to? all of my friends are in college...and i doubt they would take good care of the turtle.

any suggestions?

  1. when you bring a pet into your home, without saying anything you are promising the pet a life time home.  if you cannot care properly for your turtles, please just find them another home and don't get anymore pets.  thank you very much.

  2. First,  what ARE your "Cosmo & Stella"?  How old are they?  Are you talking about water turtles or land tortoises?  And what is your idea of "big"?

If you're talking about water turtles; it's never a good idea to put a very small water turtle with a very large one.  It could end up being a snack.

I can't help you with your dilemma when I have no idea of what sort of animal we're trying to discuss.

If you'd like to add the information to your 'additional' section; I'm sure you'll find a lot more help than you're going to get as the 'question' stands now.

    Good luck.

  3. Ok Les..ignore the meanies..

    How big is your tank?

    Howe big is each turtle?

    Feeding guppies,minows, or goldfish?

    Feeding Lettuce..romaine, butter lettuce?

If you turtles are to biog in a small tank..someone will get hurt or killed.

Two turtles need a 40 gallon tank at least ,a basking area..and lots of fish.

  4. Turtles are very particular about how their space is shared and too many turtles in too small an area will result in them fighting, often to the death. Maybe there is a way to install a plexi glass or screen divider in the tank so they can see each other and share the same water, but not hurt each other. Once they get used to one another, try putting them together again.
