I'm here in Florence. What's the best, most affordable wine tour?

There are so many wine tours that originate in Firenze (Florence). Many of them seem over-priced. Was there one you really enjoyed? How can I go about wine tasting in the Tuscan hills? (I am most interested in hearing from people with personal experience, rather than information gleaned from the internet.) Thank you!

  1. I enjoyed the Chianti tour offered by the business near the entrance to the train station.

  2. I have never been on a wine "tour" - i.e. a bus or something with many people, etc. But, I have visited lots of places in Chianti. If you are still here and have time, you should just try to call and book a winery you know and like. We did a personal tour at Verrazzano once which was very nice - we just did the tour and small tasting and it was just our family.

I think Badia Coltibuono also has daily tours.

Or just try calling a smaller producer direct - you never now when they may be around and willing to give you a tour and a taste. If you are feeling adventurous try calling Poggio al Sole and Fattoria Rignana (ask for Cosimo) and ask if a tour/tasting is available - these are 2 small producers very close to each other and not far from Florence that both make excellent wine.

Casa Emma is a little farther away - they may also set up something for you if you call first.

Good luck - links for the numbers below.
