Question:

I'm home schooled?

This law thing is really getting me worried. I really don't want to go into a regular school. In my little algebra class of 10 kids, the teacher can work with each of us, and make sure we all get the process. I really hope the law doesn't go through. What do you think?

  1. All the homeschoolers have been left alone in Australia, as far as I know, and I was one of them for my whole education. If the law becomes too difficult in your area and you still really want to stay with homeschooling, you could move to a different state or country. (Just one reason I don't want one big world government: no where to get away.)

Hope it all works out well, and I bet it will. If governments don't like homeschooling, they seem to just rely on prejudice, ignorance of existence and success, and the sacrifice it takes from parents to keep the numbers low. (If only governments would give monetary support to families who homeschool. Afterall, they safe the government large sums of money by not going to government supported schools and are turning out people who are a credit to society.)

  2. Are you members of HSLDA?  If not I would join.  You will be ok.  This will be fought all the way to the supreme court if necessary.  And homeschooling is legal, so you don't have to worry.  It's going to be ok.

  3. Don't worry, I doubt it will. But if it does, don't worry either, school is not that bad. I actually think its better, of course they're pros and cons for both, but most areas have schools with only 15-20 kids. My friend only had 7, while another had 15. I had 35! it's not bad at all. You just have to pay attention and study. Plus the teachers still answer questions if you raise your hand - and you can always come after school or at lunch for help

  4. Personally, I think forcing a child to attend a large public school is child abuse.  If they try to force you into a public school where the student population is very diverse and violence is routine, try to get your parents to move.

Perhaps you should be thinking about a good martial arts school.  A martial arts school would teach you to defend yourself and you meet news friends who can defend themselves and others.  if you do this, find a school that teaches the discipline as a sport as opposed to an art.  A "sport school" will better prepare you to defend yourself.

I can't imagine even living in California, and I could never semd a child or grandchild to a school out there.  California was becoming dangerous in the early sixties when I was in the Navy out there.  I can't even imagine what it is like now.  Of course, those with the money always find ways to isolate themselves and their families.

    Good luck.

  5. I don't think you have anything to worry about.  The law hasn't changed, a judge simply interpreted the law poorly, and if his ruling is overturned or depublished, it will have no effect outside that one isolated case.  Even if it is not depublished, the courts would still have to bring one family at a time before a judge unless they officially change the law, which no one has proposed doing yet.

  6. Well, if you don't live in California, you don't have to worry about it much right now...but I'm assuming that you do live in CA.  I doubt the law will pass - there are a LOT of people against it.  If you want to, you can go to http://www.hslda.org and sign the petition against it (or have your parents sign it).

  7. I homeschool 2 and i think you will be just fine. lol gtg utnt ttyl love kayla.

  8. The law has not changed yet! What are they going to do put 200,000 people in jail and all the kids in foster homes?

One dumb judge made a ruling saying we don't have a constitutional right to home school. That was immediately challenged by the Governor and school officials. There is time to fight this battle but please make sure you know the facts! Sign petitions and get involved. Start by reading the actual ruling and doing a bit of research. If you are worried because someone said you need to be worried then look up the facts don't just take someones word on it. Your home schooled that means you know how to find the information you want! Go 4-6 pages into this forum and you will find someone posted the ruling so you don't have to look to far!

  9. There is no new law in California.  There was a ruling by a judge in appeals Court.  The Superintendent of Public Instruction (the guy who would enforce such a ruling) issued a statement to homeschoolers that his department will not change its currently hands-off stance.

However, if one doesn't live in California, do not rest assured these issued are settled in your stated. This is an ongoing issue that can affect all 50 states.

  10. The law hasn't passed yet, so you shouldn't worry. Call me, and choose me as your best answer, ok? I need the points. LOL. We need to get together.
