I'm homeschooled and going to a privite school next year (2009). It's a good school, and I'm not worrying about getting left behind, or a new routine or anything, but just the fact I've never been to a school with other kids except for 1 day at a preschool, and that's when my mom decided to homeschool me. I'm nervous about just not fitting in with the other kids there, even though a nice amount of them go to my church (it's a Christian school). But I'm nervous about the other kids, and what will they think of me, and how will I handle the new environment. Any advice or tips about these things?

  1. Just relax and be friendly to everyone.

  2. OMG!

i think your going to have like a love/hate relationship with school!! lol

i went from being in a private school until junior high and just that alone was a HUGE transformation....going from a small private school to a huge public school was scary but exciting for me all at the same time! i loved how there were so many open and inviting people that were willing to shoe me around the school and let me meet their friends! i instantly feel in love with my new invironment but soon seen the big picture! It really is fun and exciting but just prepare yourself for lots and lots of drama, conflicts, and jealous kids!! lol

just dont act like the new kid but dont act like you own the school neither! lol

just be very open to others and try not to make faces at people....you dont really know who stands where in the school quite yet!! lol

well good luck and everything will probably be awesome!

  3. I was homeschooled for most of my life and im goin into 8th grade. I strated to go to public schools at 7th grade and i was TERRRIFIED of not fitting in. But what i did was be my self and stuck my nose up high and acted like i wasn't scared and guess what im one of the most popular girls so my advice is Just be your self and have fun

  4. well, this is going to sound redundant, but BE YOURSELF! in ANY environment, people HATE it when people are FAKE. so just smile the smile you always wear, dress how you feel comfortable and just RELAX! they probably wont even know you were home-schooled, they might just think you're new =]

find a friend on the first day (or like a buddy to "shadow" if the office assigns one) and just kind of ask him / her what they do for fun, where to eat, and any little things you should know, especially if it's an upperclassman, they can pass on some wisdom.

now... don't get me wrong... you WILL have that love hate relationship with school... but everyone does, so don't sweat it!

always here if you have any other problems, HAVE A GREAT YEAR!!!!

    [& don't forget to SMILE!]

  5. Just relax and be yourself, smile and say hi if someone makes eye contact with you.  If you are stuck not knowing what to say, you can always ask someone if they have any brothers or sisters, how long they have attended the school, and things like that.  Don't forget to ask people's names, and do your best to remember them.

  6. Don't hesitste to ask your peers about how things are done there.  Even try to get in with a couple who have been there before and know the ropes.
