  1. send her to public school or private....Homeschooling installs a false sense of security amongst teens...it deprives them of real life experiences and opportunitys....

  2. I like Abeka.  They offer student text, teacher's text, workbooks, tests and quizzes and test and quizzes teacher's editions.  It is Christian-based, but I am an athiest.  I like it because it's an all-in-one package and easy to teach.  Check out these two used homeschool curriculum sites:

    http://vegsource.com/homeschool

    http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com

And to the person who suggested public school;  if you had not gone to public school, you may have been able to spell "opportunities" correctly! By the way, the word is instill, not install!

  3. Try...

http://www.Sonlight.com  Literature based curriculum-love it! Great return policy if you don't like it. And

(excellent writing course-Start with Continuation Course A-look on ebay or resell when you are done because it's expensive)

  4. I went to half priced books and just bought a 7th grade LA book. Guess that's kinda cheating, but it came with a teacher's book as well. Also, to the person who said to send our kids to public or private school, my child is fine thank you. I have one home schooled child, and 2 go to public school. All are happy where they belong. Its up to the parents of each child to decide what's best for them.

  5. Im also going to 7th grade this year.

Im Going to Odyssey Charter school.

They'll have programs for you and its all online (very short:D) and a teacher comes to your house one a week for only like 45minutes to an hour.

Its my first year trying it becasue the schools around me arent good.

But my friends have done it and they like it.

  6. There are a ton of resources out there for you to consider:

    1) AOP has written curriculum and computer programs (Switched on Schoolhouse)

    2) Veritas Press has online recommendations

    3) Abeka and Bob Jones are both Christian curriculums with traditional textbooks

    4) Shurley Grammar is a popular grammar text

    5) sonlight curriculum teaches Language arts through literature

Research some of this stuff....ask friends around what they use...check into co-ops or enrichment programs around if you want to take it in a classroom style.

  7. Here's a link to dig through: http://homeschoolreviews.com/reviews/cat...

All of them will be recommended by some and not recommended by others. It depends what level your child is at, what goals you have, what their preferred learning style is, how much you can afford to spend, etc. The reason there are so many choices is because there is no "one size fits all."

  8. Find out which language arts curriculum your child used last year and ask what he/she liked and didn't like about it.

Find out your child's learning style (this has saved me a lot of wrong curriculum purchases). I've used the online test from Learning Success Institute. (http://learningsuccessinstitute.com/asel...

The same test is also in the book "Discover Your Child's Learning Style" - Mariaemma Willis (find in library or Amazon.com).

With this information you can weed out curriculum that isn't going to work.

I use have used Sonlight Language Arts (http://www.sonlight.com) for 5 years and it's a great fit for us. My daughter loves to read (and be read to) and does not like lots of worksheets or busywork.

    Hope this helps!

  9. We have used discarded public school textbooks and literature books.   We also used a discarded grammar computer program.
