Where is the best area to stay for convenience? We would rather avoid the tube and buses if possible. And can anyone recommend a particular hotel in that area?

  1. Well you can't possibly see all the art galleries in London especially with going on a bus. However, you can buy a Time out that suggests hotels. I've lived in London and never stayed in a hotel so I can't help you.

  2. I think you're going to have trouble avoiding the tube and buses if you want to go to Camden as it is quite far north, unless you are going to take taxis. I wouldn't recommend going everywhere by taxi as it is very expensive, whereas the tube (and buses, but they're harder to work out) is very reasonable, especially if you get a day pass. However, although there isn't a row of art galleries or anything like that, you could walk between them (although I wouldn't personally!).

Just as a starting point for hotels, you might want to look at the Premier Inn down the road from the Globe Theatre as it is in a really nice location with nice places to eat around it and really close to the Tate Modern (and therefore St Pauls, Tower Bridge and Westminster is just a bit up the river):

However, you don't say which particular art galleries you want to go to or how much you are willing to pay, so I'm afraid I can't be much more help!

If I were you, I would definitely check out the following:

This tells you how to get places and you can do it from "place of interest" to tube stops, etc. Put in the name of the art gallery, i.e. Tate Modern, then Camden and it will show you the options to get there. Once you've decided where you want to be based then just google a hotel, or go on lastminute.com to get a few names. There are hundreds of good hotels in London, so you just need to pick one that suits your needs.

    Hope you enjoy your trip!
