I'm in London for one day and I'm not really into seeing old churches and buildings. What should I do?

I'm in London, land at Heathrow, on a layover. So I really only have about 12 hours to check things out. Looking for something fun that doesn't involve dead architects. I'm young and able to get around easily so no health concerns to worry about. Thanks!

  1. if your not interested in londons architecture heritage then dont bother leaving heathrow it has some of the grandest buildings in the world and they make london (along with the red buses and black cabs ) what it is today.

  2. Get the Tube to Liverpool Street and check out Spitalfields Markets and Brick Lane.  Very interesting and well worth a visit.

  3. Have a browse and pick according to your taste from the site below.

I'd still be inclined to take a river trip from Westmister pier (near the Houses of Parliament, no need to book as a rule): a good way to get a feel for the look of central London, and "place" many of those Landmark buildings etc. without getting too hung up on them.

Perhaps after you've walked London's green centre (weather permitting): Queensway tube, Kensington Gardens, Round pond, Serpentine (Diana Memorial?) Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, down Constitution Hill, past the front of Buckingham Palace, St James's Park, Parliament Square...

See map below.  That should loosen up your legs before your next flight!

  4. How about art? The National Gallery has great pieces of art, including some famous ones.

Another cool idea would be to check out Harry Potter sites - there are tons of them! I'm sure you can find either a list or a tour somewhere on the net.

I would definitely suggest at least checking a guidebook out from the library and looking at what there is to do in London.
