  1. Show your passport. Get a new license right away, Mexico doesn't care, US does.

  2. i think you should report to the police, but try and get the word around to high authorized people. so you can try and get it back!

  3. As long as you have your passport you should be able to cross the boarder, but I would report the wallet being stolen, you dont want to get a ticket for driving without a DL.  This way the mexican police can give you an idea of how to get back to the border without your DL.

    Good Luck

  4. Try to go directly to the embassy, in order to ask them for you to help you, as well to ask any paper that will help you as an ID whenever you cross the border.

Bring your documents to the embassy too.

If in your wallet was any credit card:

    1. Call to all the credit card company to let them know that your wallet was stolen and when.

    2. I think you'll have to hire a lawyer that speaks english and ask him to make the complaint ( I think that will help you if your credits are or were used after being stolen)

Note: Whenever you hire a lawyer ask first how much it will cost and time EXACTLY will have your paper, also if he is gonna pay for the translation of this or after asking Customs by yourself in order to be completely sure, if they can accept a spanish letter or if the same lawyer can translate with a certified person for you. and if this is gonna cost you more. Always please always ask first how much is gonna cost total.

Ask to Customs in the border that you are gonna cross what they need for you to be able to cross when you have not your ID because it was stolen.

Hope to be helpful, and also that you're ok.

I found a phone that may help you:

    Hotline for American Travelers: 202-647-5225

also a website that may help you better I think

  5. You should report it to the police, the same if they don´t find the person, who did it, you need the paper (the report), to inform your embassy/ the border control.  Think they could sell your id for illegal acts and it could come back to you, if you don´t have proofs.

Next time leave your documents in the hotel safe and distribute your money in differents pockets.

I am Mexican and include in México city, I never have such experience, even if my German husband is with me (he is German):

*Ask for the safe places and times.

*Distribute your money in differents pockest of your cloths.

*Leave your importants documents in the hotel safe.

*Don´t wear jewelry or cloths with show you have money.
