I want to dodge the crowds but still get a good view

I already went once, but left, seeing that the line was too long and it was raining

  1. The crowds are massive at this time, so I suggest you get there early in the morning.  You will prefer that since there are a ton of steps to climb and you will be hot!  The tower is a great spot, but you know they have put a metal fencing thing all over since people were jumping off the tour to commit suicide!  Be careful of all the Gipsies on the plaza who ask you if you speak English, they work together to try to pickpocket you!  I suggest you also see the Sainte Chapelle, since you are already close...Also, go see the Memorial des Martyrs de la Deportation, it is right by Notre Dame and is very powerful.  Also, on the "plaza, in front of Notre Dame, is the Cript...It is an archeological sight of Lutece,  during roman times....Paris is amazing... Don't just be a tourist, be a citizen of the world!  Bonne chance!

  2. Get there a little before they open in the morning.  Otherwise, you will have to wait in a long line at this time of year.  I don't think there's a limit on how long you can stay in the tower.
