I'm in an rotc unit in highschool and everyone else who isn't involved seems to hate us, Why?

I'm in an AFJROTC unit at my high school, and so many people seem to hate us. I would love to know the reason why, if anyone can answer please do

It's people who make comments like the above one, stating that we "have no patriotism".  I don't hate people in the ROTC I just don't want anything to do with the military.  And people in military uniforms make me cringe; they scare me.  The ROTC does remind me a bit of Hilter Youth, although it's obviously far from being that extreme.  The symbol it represents, though, does make me cringe.  And, again, those far right conservatives  say that because I don't like  the military and don't support the war, I'm not patriotic. Comments like that remind me of the Communist witch hunt, and they too make me cringe.

It comes with the uniform.Learn to shrug it off.I was in JROTC during the 1960s,the time of Vietnam.What we went through then was probably a lot worse than anything you have experienced.ROTC is worth it so don't give up on it.

My daughter is in a JRNAVYROTC at her high school. I think it is because some people in high school  are still playing petty social games and have no sense of direction yet.They are still living their lives according to where the next party is. It doesn't help when the parents enable the child not to be self sufficient.Students who are in ROTC, I find have a higher sense of self,make better leaders, and have more coping skills. They are goal driven and task oriented. It is intimidating to the other students because they still don't know what is going on. Most don't even know how to pay bills or balance a check book. Anything that is different they pick on because they have no sense of self or low self esteems.

Don't pay any attention to them. Keep working on your dreams. If you do go into the military and retire out you can get a pension at 38 I think  

They pay for all your collage plus VA loans . There are allot of benefits.  The benefits need to be better. My husband retired out of the Navy and has been a civil servant for 23 years. He wouldn't  trade it for the world

Keep focused and be proud of your accomplishments.My family has served this country on and off in the military for over 200 years. My daughter hopes to be the first female officer in our family. Never allow other people to make you feel bad about trying to be your best.Besides allot of them will end up working at McDonald's. Just think of all the places you will get to be.....Good Luck!

It is "officer training" i.e. the fast track to the top minus the combat experience.

Don't be surprised if you get the same reaction from the grunts that you end up "commanding".

During the Vietnam war, ROTC was considered a symbol of the war machine which was politically unpopular at the time.  I am sorry that you

feel the brunt of most people's disillusionment with the current war in the mid East.  Just tell them that you plan to be the National Guard member who digs them out after the next, hurricane, tornado, flood, or earthquake; that is if you are not in Iraq, Afghanistan,or Pakistan,,maybe even Iran, Syria or Georgia?
