  1. take a french class. and if its not exactly the vocabulary you were looking for...ask the teacher for some extra help. I would also try going to some workshops...even if its not just in ballet. It's great practice to pick up the choreography and remember what the teacher tells you to do in 30-60 minutes. I reccomend the Dance America workshops. They have ballet, hiphop, musical theatre, modern, jazz, audition prep, and many other styles of dance depending in what age range you're in.

  2. i am in ballet too...

all the ballet terms are in french so you can look them up online...

a couple common ones might be like plie'....or te'ndu...

plie means to stand in first and bend your knees...

    tendu means to stretch...

ask your teacher to repeat the steps and go a little slower, that way it wont make you look stupid but instead like a student trying to learn...

also...try repeating the steps over and over....it takes a while to learn and remember all the steps and moves...but you will get it down

  3. try this site

    http://abt.org/education/dictionary/inde...

it explains a lot of different ballet words and shows how the dance move should be performed

if there are any particular words you are stuck on type how you think they sound into your question so maybe someone could explain them to you.

    good luck x*x

  4. Most dance teachers are only too happy to help, and if you're serious about things a 15 minute private lesson along with your group work, if it's appropriate, could work a treat.

That way your teacher will be able to perform each move whilst saying what it is, which really helps it fix in your brain.

Websites, as the very good answers above have suggested, will be useful also.

  5. go to barnes and noble and get a dance dictionary there i have one and it's very useful plus it was only about 5 bucks

and for remebering things mark them while she is saying the combonation it helps.

    good luck!

  6. I think this is a problem every ballet dancer goes through! I'd firstly talk to your teacher that you are struggling with ballet terminology and remembering the steps. This will defiantly make her aware that you are not ready to be giving such a set up from what you are used to. She also might be able to help you and give you some handouts on ballet terminology.

I'd try these websites, which saved me from ballet-death when I was struggling with vocabulary:

    http://www.learntodance.com/online%20bal...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossary_of...

    http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/strasse/...

Now, onto your memory. When you say "quickly" don't stress too much about not remembering as quickly as you'd like to. It takes time, you need to practice and over time you will learn to adapt much quicker to movements then when you are younger (grade 5 in ballet sounds young, do you do the "Royal Academy of Dance" or is it something else?). The more experience you have with Free Classes the more your brain will learn to pick up on things. Have patience and don't stress or worry. You seem to be expecting too much from yourself.

Well I hope this helps you and I hope you go good with all your ballet! ox
