But, I have no idea what I should major in if that's the career I want. What are majors that would help me prepare for social work the best and why?

  1. I always wanted to do that, always!  Check with your college Guidance Coun. at your local college.

    Good for you!!

  2. Some schools offer a BSW [Bachelor in Social Work], but to have much chance at a decent job you'll need a Master's.

  3. Most schools offer Social Work as a major. My sister is right now pursuing as her degree in Social Work when she graduates she will have a bachelors in social work.

Remember also though that social work it self to deal with kids you dont need a college degree its years of experience that really matters. If you do do your BA in social work continue toward your masters you will be more marketable also you can minor in child psychology. Would not suggest to do a double major in that though the time it takes to complete both of them u could do a masters.

It does not matter in what u have a Bachelors in you have to have one b4 progressing to a master degree.

  4. Some schools offer a BSW (Bachelors in Social Work) degree. This is a degree you get when you are an undergraduate. You can get a lower level job as a social worker with this.

Most jobs in social work require as MSW (masters of social work). You do not need a Bachelors in Social Work before getting a masters degree in it; however, if you do, you can go into an accelerated program, which is easier and quicker.

As for foster care, it will most likely require a masters program.

  5. You could major in social work if you choose a school that offers that as a program... The pay sucks so you may want to duel major in something else like elementary education...
