  1. Tell me about your childhood.

What kind of work did you do? (More likely to get answers from men to this question.)

    What are/were your hobbies?

  2. Ask about their first love.  Bring them back to a place they can reminisce about.

  3. Do you have any children?  Grandchildren? How many?

    Where were you born?

What did you do when you worked?

Old folks love to talk about family, their past, and what kind of work they did for a living.

  4. I guess the obvious would be to ask about ones family, where they are from, that kind of thing.  You might also ask about how they like to spend their time, what their interests are, and so on.  Or you might try talking about issues; maybe ask what they consider the biggest problems in society today, and what their ideas are on how to solve those problems.  Ask them what advice they have for someone your age.  If the person is a veteran, ask about what branch of the service he/she was in, where they were stationed, and so on.  Ask about their childhood, and how it was different from that of kids growing up now.  When did their family first get a car?  A television?  Where did they grow up, what brought them to the city or state they live in now, etc.

  5. What kind of food do you like?

Do you have grandchildren.  Children?  Where do they live?

What was YOUR favorite subject when YOU were in high school?

Did you participate in activities when you were in high school?

What kind of books do you like?  Magazines?
