  1. Minimum is 40lbs but there is no maximum they want the deer dead as quick as possible.

  2. J Kirsch got it: In Ohio 40 lbs is the low limit. I don't think there is a high limit -- if you can safely draw it to anchor, you can use it. Extreme emphasis on "SAFELY"!!!!!!

Most states require a minimum of 40 lbs draw-weight, although even a 25 lb bow can be effectively, humanely and ethically used to "harvest" deer. The "secret" is in using properly made hunting-weight arrows with SHARP, properly made/designed broadheads accurately placed in the correct spot in the animal. If the arrow does not have good penetration, or is poorly placed, even an 80 lb bow is not an effective weapon.

The only real reason for the "40 lb draw" requirement is to help prevent poor penetration caused by idiots using severely under-powered bows at ludicrous distances. It is NOT because bows are effective only at 40+ lbs.

  3. depends what your hunting but the lowest you can go to humanly kill a deer is 40lb 30lb would do it but the deer would suffer plus its against the law to use less then 40lb deer hunting

  4. Minimum draw weight for deer is 40 lbs.
