Dinosaurs became extinct (partially) because of two events:

1. A huge increase in volcanism at the end of the Cretaceous

2. A 10km (6mi) long meteor that struck the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico.

In fact, Dinosaurs never died out. They still live on as birds!
