  1. The two big names in Internet service in Montreal are Bell Sympatico (DSL modem) and Videotron (cable modem). They offer the high speed connections as well as dial up service. But generally, they expect you to sign up for a year and have to send you equipment to install and use.

If you have a dial-up modem, there are several ISPs that offer service to the Montreal area. These include:

    - ACN Canada

    - Acanac

    - DialUpAtCost.ca

    - RadioActif.com

    and there are many others...

You can find out if any of these offer the services you want and may offer a monthly or 3-month membership that will suit your needs.

Just do a search for "dial-up internet Montreal" and you should see a bunch listed. As long as they have a local (514) phone number to dial or a 1-800 number, you won't incur long distance charges using the service.

If you prefer DSL or cable service, check with the landlord at the apartment/condo where you are staying to see if they allow it. Some places have exclusivity agreements with Videotron or Sympatico.

If you are in a hotel for the two months, I would check with them for the internet service availability.

And finally, there is always the local internet cafe. There are a number of these, especially along St. Denis Street area.
