Question:

I'm in my 40's (gasp!) and want to find some people from my past.?

Some are classmates, some not. I have not had success with myspace.com or classmates.com. So many of the sites want you to pay for information - any free sites out there that are reliable?

I know this could be like a needle in a haystack, but I want to try!

Thanks!

  1. If you know when and where the person graduated from high school, and that class has a reunion committee, you could write to the "List Keeper". Ours has about 250 addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses, out of a possible 500. He will not tell you the person's address or phone number, but he will forward a message and let the person decide if he/she wants to contact you. I suspect most other list keepers operate the same way. Since it's just a guy with an Excel file, not a fancy paid site, lots of people who don't register for classmetes.com have sent him their contact information.

I was on the search committee for our 30th. (For the 35th and 40th we figured anyone who didn't notice it had been 35 years since he graduated wasn't going to be interested anyway, so we didn't bother.) I was able to find eight people out of my share of the "Lost" list with an exact phrase in Google. That means you use quotation marks. You have to try all four forms of the name:

    "Abraham Lincoln"

    "Abe Lincoln"

    "Lincoln, Abraham"

    "Lincoln, Abe"

The case isn't important. You do have to use double quotes ("), not single ones (').

  2. Try www.zabasearch.com, they've found more people for me than anyone else!
