  1. My son is in seventh grade and I've homeschooled him all the way through.  I can't see any benefit whatsoever to sending him to a private or public school.  He meets plenty of nice kids in the homeschool support group, at church, in scouts, in his music lessons, and in the neighborhood.  He is already so advanced that he would be bored silly in a regular school and I don't think the kids in the public schools would do anything positive for him.

The thing you need to decide with your parents is whether or not you and they are committed to meeting your schooling goals at home.  If you want to go to college, high school at home means the responsibility of keeping transcripts, and taking assessment tests.

I believe it would be the height of foolishness to go to high school simply for social reasons.  But if you and your parents think that public school is the best choice for you, it is your decision.  If worse comes to worst, you can always decide to homeschool the rest of high school.

Also, most places have community college programs that allow homeschooled high schoolers to attend, for free if the college is publicly funded.  That goes toward your high school transcript credits as well as toward your college credits.  So, if you took Physics at the public community collge, it would probably be free except for the costs of books and supplies and you would get high school credit for it as well as credits toward your college degree.

With all the negative stuff that goes on in American public high schools, I can't understand why anyone would choose to go to one.

  2. Homeschool! :D I am in 7th grade also and from K-6 I went to public and hated it, now I am homeschooled.

  3. Only you and your parents can decide what is best for you. What is your area like? How much are you and your folks willing to put into either experience? Each has its merits.

I'm a homeschooling mom. I make sure my daughter gets time outside the home.  A happy life is about balance. There is so much to do that I envy her experiences! I wish I'd have had the opportunities that she has. There are the same clubs to join, sports to play and places to go for homeschool teens as there are public school teens...maybe more. My daughter may not have a ton of acquaintances, but she has a few true blue friends and is known by name all over town with older kids, younger kids and adults. Don't believe people that tell you you'll be lonely if you homeschool. If anything, you have more opportunities to get out there and create real relationships while you learn. But  you have to get up and get out on occasion. Most homeschoolers do not sit home. Everyday is an adventure.

  4. i say public school if you do homschooling then you will not get the chance to meat new people and you will miss out on a lot of fun high school activitys

  5. You could my opinion is I would try to go to Highschool because of social reasons!

  6. It depends on you. Homeschoolers tend to have way higher test scores than public school kids. But you need a social life. Homeschooled kids tend to be favored by employers because, they can work more. If you homeschool, a job can help you later on in ways that public schools wouldn't. Homeschooled kids also don't tend to get into some of the things most people get into, drugs. But they also don't usually have to turn them down so they aren't ready to be offered anything. If you think you're smart an a good worker, homeschool. But if you need the help and guidance that public schools give, take it.

  7. There's no way ANY of us could tell you what you should do. We don't know you, your personality, your strengths, what homeschooling is like for you, what your local public schools are like, what your goals are... You need to sit down and think through all of the pros and cons of both situations and decide which one speaks to you most.

Good grief is what I have to say to some of the people who have answered you.

"if you do homschooling then you will not get the chance to meat new people "

Homeschooling, when done well, will enable you to meet MORE new people than if you were just in school. Why? Because you're not shut inside a school all day long.

"you will miss out on a lot of fun high school activitys"

There are possibly a lot of other fun activities you might miss out on if you do attend school. High school isn't the land of fun and anybody whose focus is being in high school "because it's fun" has lost the point.

"high school is supposed to be the time in your life that you will always remeber"

    Who says?

"First of all, there's more opprotunities in public school. (drama club, band, ect"

We have all those activities available here to homeschoolers as well. Not to mention the fact that these activities can be organized during a time when schooled kids are sitting in desks.

"And besides, you can get more social."

Actually, you can be more social by being out in the world rather than sitting in a desk most of the day, listening to a teacher or doing your work.

" And no passing notes to your friends? The horror!"

Wow. There's just really nothing to say about this other than the word "immature" coming to mind.

  8. Homeschool!  There are many activities and opportunities for homeschoolers.  Colleges are actively recruiting homeschoolers now because of their academic abilities and self-discipline. You can also develop into your own person without the concern of constant peer pressure molding you into a person you don't want to be.

You also don't want to learn to spell like boosbaby!  Meat is a food and not something you do with people.  The plural of activity is activities.  If you would like to speak and write correctly avoid public school.

  9. Is the answer to this question up to you?  Your parents have homeschooled you so far for a reason.  They may not be willing to let you attend public school.  I believe that if they allow you to make the decision, you should give public school a try.  It's not all about books, it's about school activities and friends and such.  If you don't feel you are being challenged enough at school, ask your parents to help out.  Good luck at whatever you do.

  10. i would go to public school, high school is supposed to be the time in your life that you will always remeber, and if you do homeschooling then you would miss out on a ton of things like sports, dances, clubs ect. and if your only in 7th grade then you still have a lot of time to think about this! highschool dosent start for another 2 years for you!

  11. Homeschool, If you really want to be serious with your studies. You need time to prepare for College without the stress you 'll get if you're in a traditional school. You will have plenty of time to sleep, eat, play, enjoy the comfort of being home or go to other places for research or meet other people. You will even have time to travel out of the country if opportunity comes in. Like us we had the chance to travel around  and have discovered endless opportunity to learn.

  12. Homeschool!

Who says you can't meet new people and still be involved in activities? You still can. Actually, you have MORE time to be involved in extra fun things. :]

  13. you Should  do homeschool for highschool

  14. i would say high school, but thats my opinion.  My friend was home-schooled his whole life until 9th grade when he went to high school.  He is now having trouble passing the lowest classes offered because the standards of his home-schooling were so low.  He loves that he made so many new friends, but he wants to go back.  I would take a look at the classes you will be taking, and maybe even sit in on them if you are able to.

    Good Luck

  15. I'm in 7th too, but I think I'm going to stick with public school. First of all, there's more opprotunities in public school. (drama club, band, ect.) Sure, your parents could teach u that stuff, but I still assume public schools would be better.

Anyways, you know all those movies about high school? (Meangirls the movie?) It's not gonna be like that. And besides, you can get more social. That's gotta come in handy, right?

I necisarily would not want to be stuck in the house with my mom quizing me on algerbra. And no passing notes to your friends? The horror!

And geez, how could I forget!? The prom! I can't wait for that.

  16. PUBLIC.BECAUSE HOME IT'S JUST NOT THE SAME AND PLUS YOU'LL MAKE SOME MORE FRIENDS WHICH WILL MAKE SCHOOL MORE FUN.

  17. I think you and your parents should look around the Elementary and Secondary Education and Teaching parts of YA to get a feel for public school issues.  Here are some sample question headlines (YA won't let me put the links in)...

she stuck her feet in my mouth when i was asleep in class? seriously...

  18. My experience with homeschoolers is that only homeschoolers don't think they're weird. You will be living in a world where most people are not home schooled. Public school will better teach you how to deal with the world.

  19. Without knowing you, your parents, or what the Public Schools in your area are like, no-one can really give you a well thought out answer.  Homeschool has many advantages, and is an excellent choice, Public school does make it easier to study certain things, like Music and Drama, but they can also be done in homeschool if you are determined enough.  Really, the choice depends on the individual.

  20. Probably not up to you entirely.  Maybe your parents can broaden your interaction with other homeschoolers.  I know that some of them have sports competition, debate contests, etc.  Maybe there are lots more ways they can find for you to interact with peers.  Good luck.

  21. I think you should go to public school, you don't want to miss out on getting new friends, going to high school games, your prom. That is a once in a life time experience, you should not miss. And if you really have public school, you could always start home schooling later.

  22. i did homeschooling for half of my freshman year and it was BORING id say  public school
