  3. Yes, you should take the subject because there is more to music gcse than sight reading. You don't even need to do a lot of sight reading (I am on 2nd year of Edexcel course) and I think the notes would be easy to sight read. More of the gcse is based on listening. Performing would be fine as you could learn the songs, and when you are composing you can write up the composition on a chart instead of music notation.

Drama and dance seem like good choices, especially the practical side, and they go well with a subject like music as they are very creative. But as I don't do drama or dance, I wouldn't know much about the written part, but I know that there's quite a lot of dancing theory to learn.

Good luck with whatever subjects you choose!

  4. you're subjects are all in the 'creative category' but if they're what you want to do then go for it as every subject is important for it's own reason.

the main thing at GCSE i personally believe is showing you're a hard worker, good learner .etc whether my future employer will be concerned about my memory of trigonometry i doubt

hope this has been helpful and not too boring

  5. Hi princess

Having dyslexia en dyscalculia is not a problem when studying music.  studing music in fact  helps with you other subjects

The sight reading is actually not as hard as it sounds.   with all music the only trick is to practice practice practice.   That is the only thing that work for sight reading.   The whole point of music is its supposed to be fun.

Just so you know i have discalculia and at the moment i'm on 7 instruments inc Grade 7 piano and Grade 6 Euphonium.

I learned that all you need to do is don't give up.  if you struggle with something then just practice extra hard at it.  And just so you know aswell I finished with 2 grades in math in my final year in school.

My Brother is Dyslexic and he plays 3 instruments.  he is also doing well with his Job.  21 and is currently running his own business

As for drama and dance.  Well that is really up to you but i think that you will enjoy it.  you sound like you know what you want to do now just go do it!!!

Good Luck Kiddo you can do it!!!

  6. I suggest taking the subject. If you find it too difficult you can always change it. Alot of people who have SEN particular dyslexia and dyscalculia tend to be very creative.

You should always try what you want in life, never let SEN hold you back, instead let then enable you to try harder and be determined.

    Good luck xx

  7. Go to your SENCO at school. You may have to ask yr mum or dad for help. tell the senco that you are finding it very hard to keep up in class. If you have been diagnosed with dylxia and dyscla (I've got the latter) the sneco is duty bound to give you help if you have been properly diagnosed. You won't stick out from the class. the help will be alongside what happens in class.Keep going. Did you know. Richard Branson DYSLEXIC.

Yup ....it didnt stop him and it wont  stop you!!

  8. i am in year 11 and doing music GCSE,

im doing the WJEC course and there is a listening paper, 2 performances (solo and ensemble) and 2 compositions have to be submitted. And luckily you dont need to do any sight reading! Dont let dyslexia or Dyscalculia get in the way of your choices!

On the listening paper the end question i a longer essay style question (but you cant get A* on it anyway)

as long as you like performing and composing, do music GCSE as there is hardly any writing other than making notes and in the listening papaer you have to tick boxes and write little comments on the music etc.

for drama, my peers have to write their own dialogues and monologues but do a lot of performing aswell

and for PE, there is a lot of written coursework

or try art - there is no writing involved at all!

    good luck

  9. Go for it! I bet you are very artistic don't let your dyslexia or dyscalculia hold you back. Good luck

  10. if you want to do music do it dont let dyslexia and dyscalculia get in the way of you from making the most out of your life..
