I'm interested in being a volunteer firefighter in CA. I am 18. do they get paid at all?

i'm not doing it for the money, i just need to know if i need to keep my part time job or not. i know mean volunteer means free service, but i just want to make sure im on the right path.

  1. I don't think you would get paid, but you might get some kind of tax break..


  2. Volunteer means just that....to volunteer.     You only get paid if you were on the pay roll.     Sometimes after you have volunteered for awhile and they like you, it is possible then to get hired on.    

    We Love our volunteers.   They are what makes this country great!    Thank you!

  3. Depends on the department.  When I volunteered we were paid $5 per call.  We also got property tax breaks, a break on health insurance and one volunteer house was housed for free -- but that meant anytime you were at "home" you were working.
