What type of canoe or kayak would I get for this. I'm not planning on doing any white water kayaking serious stuff. Just want some exercise and live near Lake Michigan.

  1. dont go on less its not even waving are boat on a nice day almost tipped because a storm came in out of nowwhere. are boat is 18 feet!

  2. I say a kayak and if its mid summer you can do a sit on top which is more stable and does not require you to learn how to roll.  I have paddled plus or minus five miles from the causeway at Charlevoix and found it challenging but doable.  Michigan is big water so don't do this if you are not experienced and confident..and don't go alone.  Otherwise, I can also suggest that you paddle Round Lake which is inland from the big Lake at Charlevoix.  Its a big ride the water is less rough and susceptible to wind (the enemy of kayaks) and you can go long distances.  I built my confidence paddling there before I went out on to the big M.  Lake Michigan is cold year round, the deepr the water the colder it gets, the wind blows most of the time and the beaches tend to be pretty rocky making landing a little tricky.  Its great fun but respect that piece of water and the bigger the group you have the safer it is.  Good paddling dude.
